Alec Baldwin has signed with Warner Brothers to play the role of Thomas Wayne in Joaquin Phoenix standalone Joker movie. For those of you who don’t know, Thomas Wayne is Batman’s father and added Baldwin to play the role just adds to the depth that this movie will have.
The standalone movie that will be directed and written by Todd Phillips and Scott Silver. Philips who is most known for the Hangover and Silver is most known for his boxing movie ‘The Fighter’ and this will be the first time either of them dabbles into the superhero world. The script is set to take on the Joker before he becomes the Joker. Phoenix portrayal of the crazy Batman villain will occur way before Batman even exists which makes sense now by adding Alec Baldwin as Thomas Wayne.
Bruce Wayne’s father has had multiple connections to the Joker’s creation in numerous different adaptations of the classic comic book story. In Jack Nicholson’s version of the character, ‘Jack’ was the one who actually ended up killing Bruce Wayne’s parents and creating Batman. In other adaptation’s Bruce Wayne’s billion dollar company Wayne Enterprise is responsible for ruining the Joker’s life and therefore making him into the Joker. The two characters have had quite the relationship with one another and it will be interesting to see how Baldwin and Phoenix interact on the screen.
Zazie Beats is set to be Phoenix love interest in the movie and Robert De Niro has joined the cast as the host of a TV show that propels the Joker into becoming the Joker. I for one am very curious as to how all this will play out but if the stellar cast means anything, this movie will be a sensation.
The movie will begin filming in 2 weeks and is set to release in late 2019. For now, all we can do is wait for a trailer.
