Last night, Saba kicked off the Care For Me tour in Philadelphia. This marks the first time the Chicago rapper has taken the stage since the release of his newest project, Care For Me. After setting a release date for the album nearly a month ago, the Chicago native stuck to his word this week by releasing the ten-track effort. The project, which is his first since 2016’s The Bucket List Project, features the likes of theMIND, Kaina and frequent collaborator, Chance The Rapper. Behind the boards, Saba’s newest project features production from Daoud and DaeDaePIVOT.
Care For Me displays a very introspective and reflective tone. On tracks like “Logout” featuring Chance The Rapper, Saba discusses the dark side of social media dependency that he’s experienced in his own life. Saba raps, “If I can not logon, and they started a rumor that I had got shot like a day ago/I don’t wanna put down my headphones/I don’t got cable in my crib/I don”t even know how we got here/Being independent is my fear.” On other songs like “BUSY/SIRENS”, Saba touches on his own depression. Saba raps, “‘I’m so alone—but all of my friends/But all of my friends, got some shit to do, yeah/All ’em got plans, I call ’em; “My bad,” and text ’em/They never cross me like bad pedestrians/I’ve been this awkward since adolescence/I don’t know how long I had depression.” Most of the project features a more reflective and mature version of The Bucket List Project rapper’s life
