Alan Tudyk is adding another Disney credit to his filmography. After memorable characters in Rogue One, Wreck-It Ralph, and Moana is set to lend his voice to Guy Ritchie’s upcoming Aladdin. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tudyk will voice Iago, Jafar’s parrot sidekick in the film. Gilbert Gottfried previously voiced the character in the 1992 original.
The role was somewhat of a mystery amongst fans who had seen Iago flying around in trailers but had yet to hear him speak. Speaking of trailers, many fans were disappointed by the lack of footage shown in previous trailers. However, the casting news also came with a new trailer for the film. Check it out below:
Guy Ritchie helmed the film, which draws heavily from the 1992 animated classic. The film stars Will Smith, Mena Massoud, and Naomi Scott. It will feature songs from the original as well as a few new songs, written specifically for Ritchie’s adaptation. It also isn’t the only live-action remake on the way from Disney as The Lion King and Dumbo both land later this year. Adaptations of Mulan, Lady & The Tramp, The Little Mermaid, Snow White, and Pinnochio are also in various stages of development. Recently, there have even been rumors that Disney is exploring a live-action adaptation of The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Aladdin is set to hit theaters on May 24, 2019.
