The University of Alabama is searching for a new head basketball coach after firing Anthony Grant last week. According to Gary Parish of CBS Sports, Alabama’s top choice is Wichita State’s Gregg Marshall.
Parrish said while that Alabama doesn’t have a rich basketball tradition, the school’s athletic department is prepared to offer him close to $3 million per season.
Marshall is currently preparing his squad for the Sweet 16, coming off an upset win against in state rival Kansas in the round of 32 this past weekend.
Marshall is in his eighth season at Wichita State where he’s only had one losing season, his first. The Shockers have won 30 games three straight seasons under Marshall and three Missouri Valley Conference Titles.
Prior to Wichita State, Marshall was the head coach at Winthrop for nine seasons where he made the NCAA Tournament eight times.
He has a career record of 398-158 and has turned down job offers in the past from the University of California, Tennessee, and Missouri.
