The Hornets center Al Jefferson may have his season cut short due to Jefferson having injury problems. In the last ten days, he has had fluid drained from his knee three times and left the game at the half against the Pacers in a 93-74 loss Friday night due to knee soreness. The Hornets as a team are losing grip of Playoff basketball. Jefferson has not looked good on the court lately and his knee is the reason why. According to thescore’s John Click, Hornets Coach Steve Clifford said,
“The guy literally couldn’t pivot and turn,” Clifford said of Jefferson after Friday’s game. “I don’t know if he’ll play again. It’s just not fair to him.”
Nba.com’s Scott Howard-Cooper also wrote Clifford’s views.
“To me, he’s dragging that leg around and then he compensates,” Clifford said. “He’s a big man. He’s disappointed. But he’s injured.”
Jefferson’s coach has taken notice of his knee problems, and he wants to help his veteran star out. Jefferson finishing this season now may be good for him because he will be able to rest up his knee, and can start preparing for next season. With 7 games left for the Hornets, they are unlikely to make the playoffs. They are in 11th place and two games back from the Miami Heat. While they don’t have much ground to make up, there are a bunch of other teams fighting for that spot that are ahead of the Hornets. Since the Hornets have a small chance of making the playoffs, and Jefferson won’t be 100% the rest of the season; it may be best to just end his season now and get ready for next year.
