Aminu averaged 9.4 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists on 43.3% field-goal shooting and 34.3% from deep. With the departure of Aminu, the Blazers will likely look to get more out of forward Zach Collins starting next season.
The fit on the Magic’s end is a bit confusing. Orlando already has Jonathan Isaac and Aaron Gordon on the roster, who fill a similar role. For a team that is thin at guard, it is interesting to see that the Magic made the move for Aminu at a position that could be viewed as a strength. After handing out deals to both Terrence Ross and Nikola Vucevic, the Magic will not have much flexibility to try to upgrade the point guard spot.
Orlando will hope that these moves can help sustain the success of last season, where they made the playoffs but eventually lost to the Toronto Raptors.
