Aklesso is not “Giving Up” and neither should you.
The Miami, Florida, native blends resilience and rhythm to craft the latest release from his forthcoming EP, Still Lonely. Inspired by recent moments of pain within his family and his ability to persevere, Aklesso sings about his desire to push through with a subtle confidence before rapping about the vices and temptations that tend to entice the best of us when we’re at our lowest. Ultimately, he pushes through with faith and self-determination as he chants, “I’m jaded, beat down, and broken up. I’m human, just like the rest of us. But, I ain’t givin’ up tonight,” over the euphoric production from Okay.Benny, William Soolua, and GLEECE.
“Giving up is the most vulnerable song I’ve ever written,” Aklesso said about his new single. “I made it in a season where one of my closest family members almost gave up on life, and the same day I came face to face with my father after 17 years apart. It’s a song about the moments when pain feels unbearable, when hope feels distant, but choosing to hold on anyway. It’s a reminder that even when it feels like everything’s falling apart, your story isn’t over yet.”
Following the release of “Range!,” “Giving Up” sets the stage for the aforementioned Still Lonely EP. Announced shortly after he inked a deal with Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins’ Alienz Alive, it serves as the start of the next chapter of his blossoming career.
