Season two of Peacock’s breakout series, Bel-Air, will kick off later this week. Following an explosive finale, there are a lot of questions that need to be answered. Also, there are a few new faces that need to be introduced. Alongside the likes of Coco Jones and Jabari Banks, Morgan Cooper will welcome a Saweetie cameo as well as Jazlyn Martin, Brooklyn McLinn and Riele Downs. While many are eager to see how Martin will play the role of Jackie and explore how McLinn can mold Will’s game on the court, one new addition has captured the attention and imagination of Bel-Air fans.
After starring as Ashley Banks in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Tatyana Ali will step into the classroom as Ms. Hughes in Peacock’s Bel-Air. In this role, Ali will portray “a teacher at Bel-Air middle school who sees something special in Ashley Banks.” As the season two premiere of Bel-Air nears, Def Pen caught up with the actress who currently plays the role of Ashley Banks, Akira Akbar, and asked her what it was like working with Ali during season two.
“Playing the role of Ashley while working with Tatyana Ali was honestly intimidating. Like, I didn’t want to do the wrong thing. You know? But she honestly just told me that I was on the right path and that I was doing amazing stepping into the shoes of this new Ashley,” Akbar explained.
“And she was so proud of me. That is a moment that I’ll never forget.”
Akbar and Ali will come together throughout season two of Bel-Air, which is set to debut its season premiere on Thursday, February 23. Until then, check out the trailer below.
