Tomorrow, the focus around the league will be on the NBA Draft Lottery which will start before game 2 of the Western Conference Finals. The fate of 14 NBA franchises draft position will be put in the hands of the number of ping pong balls a team has.
After this process is over, the NBA community will have a concrete understanding on which team will pick where and what spots potential draftees could land. More importantly, the workout process for draftees will start to ramp up because of this. However, the Sacremento Kings find themselves in an unfavorable spot when it comes to potential workouts before the draft.
Following from Chad Ford of ESPN.
Multiple NBA agents told me that they were determined to keep their clients from working out for Sacramento.
“It would be malpractice to let my clients play for them,” one longtime agent said. “I’ve had clients there. It’s still the most dysfunctional front office in the league, by a mile. How can you trust those guys with one of your players? It’s going to take a long time to build that trust.”
The Kings find themselves in the same boat as the Boston Celtics, who have also got the same treatment from agents but not for the same organizational worries as the Kings.
The Celtics are loaded with players at every position. The fear is that — much like No. 3 pick Jaylen Brown this year — their clients would have to spend the next few years coming off the bench. That’s not what most top prospects in the draft want. They want a chance to start and lead a franchise right away.
Whatever the case may be, the Kings and the Celtics will have to do without player workouts before the NBA Draft in June.
