Adrian Peterson is returning to the Minnesota Vikings after being away from the team for almost 9 months. The former 2012 MVP told multiple sources that he would be joining the team for OTAs.
“I’ve been away from the game for an entire season,” Peterson told the Associated Press. “I wanted the chance to be around the players and coaches, the guys that really matter to me.”
This will be the first time Peterson will be with the team since the child abuse incident back in 2014. Once he was suspended by the team and placed on the commissioners exempt list things became a little shaky between Minnesota and Peterson.
When rumors floated around that Peterson wanted out head coach Mike Zimmer sent out a straight to the point statement.
“He’s really got two choices: He can play for us. Or he cannot play,”
Peterson then responded sending out a series of tweets in a way to vent about his unhappiness with the team. With already being the league’s highest paid runningback with almost 45 million left on his three year deal the 30 year old back decided it was time to rejoin his teammates.
“I understand this is a business. Clearly there were a lot of emotions involved, but I will only be better from the situation,” Peterson told the AP. “I have a role to play and the Vikings have one as well. It’s time to move forward and put my energy and focus on preparing for the season.”
