Adrian Marcel has returned to deliver his latest single, “Lovin’ Me.” Produced by Sonny B, the track feels like a breezy, summer afternoon drive along the coast of California. Lyrically, it digs much deeper as the Bay Area as he begs his significant other to continue loving him through the ups and downs of his life as a musician and man.
“Through all your sacrifice, you stood by my side, but still, I can’t help wondering if you’re still in love with me,” he sings.
He’s not singing in the rain or taking up many of the nostalgic R&B clichés of the 1990s or early 2000s. Instead, the soul and emotion conveyed through the lyrics and his vocal performance are very much reflective of his early R&B roots and influences. Still, the vibrant musicality and authentic groove of the track feel contemporary. Mixing the two creates a smooth, memorable track that adds to the work that Kehlani, J Valentine and many of his peers in the Bay Area have been putting out as of late.
“Lovin’ Me” continues to build toward Adrian Marcel’s forthcoming project, RNBAY SZN. Set for release on Friday, July 12, the project will feature his latest single along with “So Good” featuring Jane Handcock.
