The Anti-Defamation League has announced that it will not accept a $500,000 donation from Brooklyn Nets Point Guard Kyrie Irving.
“We were optimistic but after watching the debacle of a press conference, it’s clear that Kyrie feels no accountability for his actions,” ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt stated.
The Anti-Defamation League has made the decision to refuse Kyrie Irving’s donation just minutes after the Nets issued Irving an indefinite suspension of at least five games without pay. The league condemned Irving for his refusal to “unequivocally say he has no antisemitic beliefs” after sharing a link to the film, Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America.
“We were dismayed today, when given an opportunity in a media session, that Kyrie refused to unequivocally say he has no antisemitic beliefs, nor acknowledge specific hateful material in the film. This was not the first time he had the opportunity — but failed — to clarify,” the Nets stated.
“Such failure to disavow antisemitism when given a clear opportunity to do so is deeply disturbing, is against the values of our organization, and constitutes conduct detrimental to the team. Accordingly, we are of the view that he is currently unfit to be associated with the Brooklyn Nets.”
Kyrie Irving has not yet issued a statement regarding his suspension or the ADL’s recent decision to refuse his donation.
