Adele’s sophomore album was released well over a year ago but this week the recently proclaimed sixth biggest selling album in UK history reclaims the top spot on the official UK album’s chart, bringing it’s total weeks at No. 1 there to 22.
In doing so, ’21’ overtakes the chart reign of classic albums by The Beatles’ (‘A Hard Days Night’ and ‘With The Beatles’), which both spent 21 weeks apiece at the top. The album is now the longest reigning No. 1 album by a female artist.
For comparison sake, the longest stay at No. 1 in the UK belongs to the cast of South Pacific, whose soundtrack recording spent 115 weeks at No. 1 between 1958-61.
