Did you know that the WNBA Playoffs were currently happening? It’s ok, you’re not the only one.
Adam Silver is surprised that the WNBA isn’t popular yet, something he says the NBA would have expected to be by now.
“We thought we would have broken through by now,” Silver said. “We thought ratings and attendance would be higher.”
Last season, the WNBA had an average attendance of just under 8,000 fans a game, as most teams play in NBA arenas.
“I think we might have been ahead of ourselves 20 years ago in terms of what we were doing,” Silver said, admitting that he feels in part responsible for where WNBA stands today.
If by any chance you’d like to check out the WNBA playoffs, there are two games tonight on NBA TV with the Indiana Fever hosting the Chicago Sky at 7pm followed by the Tulsa Shock hosting the Phoenix Mercury at 9. Elena Delle Donne plays for the Sky and Skylar Diggins plays for the shock, if that’s any incentive.
