I think it’s perfect for me to talk about this. Even though basketball is my favourite sport. I cannot get away from football (Soccer for you). In England. Football is your American Football. The Barclays Premier League is your National Football League.
So I know what advertising on jerseys are all about. It’s weird for me because I’ve seen ads on shirts all my life. You see it in EuroLeague. Plastered with ads.
But for NBA. I personally think that ads on jerseys, will taint them more than anything. But for Commissioner Adam Silver who’s in London tonight for the game between the Milwaukee Bucks and the New York Knicks. According to Philly.com, he says that advertising on jerseys are inevitable.
Commissioner Adam Silver said yesterday in London, it is “inevitable” that the league will one day take after European sports and have sponsor names on team jerseys. That’s standard practice for international sports teams, for which selling advertising space on their shirts is a main source of income.
With the NBA back in London for its annual regular-season game, Silver said that’s something the league could copy – even if some fans would find it jarring.
“Exactly when it’s going to come, I’m not sure, but I do think it’s inevitable in our sport,” Silver said ahead of today’s game between the New York Knicks and Milwaukee Bucks at London’s O2 Arena.
Jarring indeed. I don’t want them. I’m not sure any NBA fans want them. And if there are that favour it. Speak up!
