In the most recent All-Star Game, the final score was 192-182. There were many records broken in the game due to the high scoring and lack of defense. Now, NBA Commissioner, Adam Silver, has promised that the All-Star Game next year is going to be changed up.
Silver said that everyone he’s talked to within the league has stated that there needs to be a change. “We all got to the point where everyone seemed to agree that it needed to be more competitive, by everyone, including the players,” said Silver when talking to Rachel Nichols.
Adam Silver then went on to talk about a couple of ideas they have been kicking around. They’ve discussed playing for specific charities, possibly having team captains, having someone pick the teams — possibly similar to what has happened to the Rookie versus Sophomore game in recent years — and maybe even changing it to where players from both conferences can be on the same team.
Silver said that he and the rest of the league are open to any new ideas that could help make the All-Star game more competitive. The NBA wants to find a balance between happened in this year’s game and the pace of a Finals game. No one wants an injury in an exhibition game, but there should be a middle ground somewhere in there.
It will be interesting to see what Adam Silver and the NBA does with the upcoming All-Star Game. Silver has promised multiple times that it will be different, so the fans will just have to wait and see.
