ESPN aired a special last night where Andy Katz sat down with NBA commissioner Adam Silver to discuss the state of the league after being the “head man” for one full year.
One major topic that was discussed was “tanking.” With teams like the Sixers or even maybe the Celtics now per say, trading away all their talent to improve their draft stock, taking has been a hot topic of late around the league.
“I absolutely don’t think any team is trying to lose,” Silver said. “No player is going out there to lose. In terms of management, I think there’s an absolute legitimate rebuilding process that goes on. It’s so hard to win in this league, and it’s so complex.”
Silver then mentioned the Sixers and how they “rebuild.” Philadelphia is currently 2-23 and in back-to-back drafts, drafted guys who have been injured to hold them out for an entire season.
“I think what’s happened in the case of Philadelphia, their strategy has been reduced into a tweet,” said Silver. This notion ‘be bad to be good.’ When it gets reduced into a headline, I understand the reaction.”
So then that’s not tanking I guess according to the commissioner? Leave your thoughts below or reply to us on twitter @NBAonDefpen on whether you belive Adam Silver truly believes what he is saying.
