Adam Silver has made it his mission to make the NBA more modern ever since taking over as the commissioner of the league. Silver’s approach has won over many fans as he’s been clear that he wants social media and eventually sports gambling to be a huge part of the league as a whole.
Silver’s ideas are innovative and the commissioner has brought up another new possibility. At the Code Commerce event in New York, Silver brought up the possibility of making NBA broadcasts similar to those of Twitch, an online service owned by Amazon that is primarily used for gaming.
Twitch is known for its supplements to broadcasts including live stats and comments from fans.
Silver on the idea via Recode.net:
“I think to a lot of older consumers, used to looking at sports, it might look incredibly cluttered,”
The NBA is attempting to be the forefront of technology in sports. This is just the latest example of the NBA’s innovation in that regard.
The league is also growing on Twitter and live broadcasts on the social media platform could be a possibility in allowing live commentary by fans while games go on.
