The NBA are just as sick of it as we are. The “Hack-A-Shaq” is beneficial for the art of basketball strategy, but other than that it’s an eyesore for fans and players. We say that we hate it, but the fans don’t want a rule on it because it’s the designated players fault.
“If you don’t want it to happen, make free throws.” as if they don’t practice constantly. Every player has something they can’t do, it’s just because we can’t explain why some players can’t make the free throws, we shrug our shoulders saying “That’s on you” but simultaneously were throwing our hands up saying “AH NOT THIS AGAIN!”
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has talked about it for a some time now and once the July comes, we might have a new rule on our hands.
“It’s not unanimous, but there’s clearly an emerging consensus that we need to address the situation,” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said in a meeting with the Associated Press Sports Editors on Thursday afternoon at the league’s midtown Manhattan headquarters. “Exactly what the new rule should be is open for debate, and at least I’m hoping that between now and the next owner’s meeting in July we can create and form a consensus as to what the change in the rule should be.”
Kiki VanDeWeghe has also talked about it and he had a great point I 100% agree with.
“It goes against the spirit of the rule book,” VanDeWeghe said. “Free throws were to compensate and deter fouls, not to encourage them. So I think we’re at the point where everyone agrees on that, not to belabor that, so what are the solutions?”
Silver also said in the article that he was on the fence, something we have seen for the past year or so. Whenever the discussion came up he always talked both sides and then that was that. Now action is finally being taken.
Don’t whine, you hate it. Sure it’s the players fault in a way but something had to be done.
