With the NBA season less than 24 hours away, it’s time to prep the high notes, ready to whine about the NBA problems we face nearly every day. The most notable? The hacking of course. Hack-A-[insert player name here] makes every NBA fan want to bash their head against a wall because it’s do tedious and nearly brings the game to a stand still. But what can we do? Not allow people to foul certain people? You can’t regulate it unfortunately and that’s the reality NBA Commissioner Adam Silver sees, but he’ll still look into it.
“I’m not going to say we’re never going to change it, but we’ll look at it closely,” Silver said during an appearance on ESPN Radio’s Mike & Mike. “We had a long discussion about with the competition committee this summer and the decision was to leave it and let’s continue to track it.
“My inclination is not to change it, but we’ll continue to watch it.“
“It’s bad, I get it, from an aesthetic standpoint, from an entertainment standpoint, for fans,” Silver said. “On the other hand, I hear from literally thousands of coaches — not just from the United States but from around the world — saying, ‘You cannot change this rule. What lesson does that send? The kids who are learning the game, this is a fundamental part of the game: A guy’s got to be able to make free throws.’“
That’s a good point. Say if there was a rule for it, kids would look at that and go “yay no free throws!”. We can’t completely get rid of free throws, it’s a pillar of the game of basketball. It’s like getting rid of the three-point line, don’t be stupid.
We’re just going to have to remove our eyes out of our sockets quicker guys.
