As you have probably heard, anti-LGBT legislation passed in the state of North Carolina has the NBA(and its fans) worried about 2017 All-Star Weekend, which is currently set to take place in the city of Charlotte. In previous statements, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has stated that as of then, there were no plans to move the festivities.
Several public figures –such as Stephen Curry, Stan Van Gundy, and Charles Barkley— have spoken on the issue recently, and all three are against the state’s legislation.
Today, Silver took a definitive stance against the law. From Tim Bontemps of the Washington Post:
Adam Silver says the NBA has been clear that if the status quo in North Carolina remains in place the All-Star Game would have to be moved.

Most will be pleased with this strong statement by Silver. It puts pressure on the state of North Carolina to to change the legislation. If they do not, they’ll lose a huge source of publicity and revenue. All-Star Weekend is big time, and it is a great honor for the city of Charlotte to have won the bid. It would certainly be a shame for them to lose this opportunity.
