Academy Award winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his New York apartment home Sunday morning (Feb. 2) from an apparent heroin overdose. He was 46 years old.
Sources are reporting that the actor was found dead in his apartment bathroom with a needle in his arm. Police are still investigating and the actual cause of death has yet to be determined.
Hoffman has been very open about his substance abuse in the past and had completed a 10-day detox program last May after he relapsed after 23 years of sobriety.
He had most recently made an appearance at the Sundance Film Festival last month where his new movie ‘God’s Pocket’ was debuting and Showtime had announced he would be starring in a new comedy TV series ‘Happyish’.
He was currently filming the last installment of ‘The Hunger Games’ franchise, ‘Mockingjay Part 2’.
Hoffman had won an Oscar back in 2006 for his role in ‘Capote’. He has also been nominated for his roles in ‘Doubt’, ‘The Master’, and ‘Charlie Wilson’s War’. He is also known for his roles in ‘Moneyball’, ‘The Big Lebowski’, and ‘Almost Famous’.
According to the actor’s IMDb page, he was born in Fairport, NY in 1967. He graduated from the New York University Tisch School of the Arts with a B.F.A. in drama IN 1989.
