From 1992 to 1995, the BBC’s Absolutely Fabulous (also called Ab Fab) charmed viewers as they followed Edina Monsoon, a PR agent with a hankering for booze. In November 2011, the show’s star Jennifer Saunders announced that she would adapt the series to film. Five years later, the upcoming film has a summer release date and a trailer.
“Appropriate for their big screen debut, Edina and Patsy (Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley) are still oozing glitz and glamour, living the high life they are accustomed to; shopping, drinking and clubbing their way around London’s trendiest hotspots. Blamed for a major incident at an uber fashionable launch party, they become entangled in a media storm and are relentlessly pursued by the paparazzi. Fleeing penniless to the glamorous playground of the super-rich, the French Riviera, they hatch a plan to make their escape permanent and live the high life forever more!” (Fox Searchlight)
The new trailer for the film shows just exactly what the “major incident is” – the pair of women accidentally knock beloved celebrity Kate Hudson off a cliff, apparently killing her. It also seems that the movie is chock full of cameos; let’s hope this won’t be another Zoolander 2 situation…
Absolutely Fabulous is directed by Mandie Fletcher and written by Jennifer Saunders. The film stars Saunders, Joanna Lumley, Julia Sawalha, June Whitfield, and Jane Horrocks. Jon Plowman and Damian Jones are producers.
Ab Fab: The Movie falls into theatres on July 22.
