Currently, it is looking like Aaron White will play next season somewhere other than in the NBA as a member of the Washington Wizards. After Summer League play concluded, it does not look like he played well enough to make the Wizards chance giving him a training camp invite.
Playing overseas and taking time to develop and turn himself into a stretch four makes a lot of sense for both White and the Wizards. If he were to be invited to training camp, he would basically be guaranteed to be cut because Washington only has one roster spot left open, and he would then not technically be “owned” by any team.
Following From Washington Post.
“The thing with training camp is if I went to training camp and I didn’t make the team, I’d have to get cut and the Wizards would lose my rights,” White said. “So right now it’s looking like I’ll probably go overseas. I’m in talks with both my agent and the front office of the Wizards trying to work out a good situation for me.
Even if a miracle worked out in White’s favor and he somehow made the roster, the likeliness of him ever seeing the court are right around zero. A move overseas now gives White an opportunity to develop his game while being more of a key piece who will make more contributions that he would have in DC.
