Power forward Aaron White will bypass an NBA contract and play his basketball professionally next year in Germany. Folliwing from Sportnando:
Telekom Baskets Bonn is finalizing a deal to sign rookie from iowa Aaron White, source told Sportando. White played the Summer League in Las vegas and now he’s taking the plane to Germany.
White was taken with the 49th overall pick in the second round of the NBA draft by the Washington Wizards after spending his collegiate days at the University of Iowa. White was a promising young prospect but his 6’8″ frame would’ve been an issue in the NBA. White did put up spectacular numbers at Iowa as he averaged 16.3 points per game while snagging 7.4 rebounds.
Had White taken the contract Washington offered him, there was no guarantee of playing time. The Wizards have a deep frontcourt consisting of Nene, Marcin Gortat, Drew Gooden, Kris Humphries, DeJuan Blair, and possibly Kevin Seraphin depending on his free agency decision. White is pulling a stunt similar to that of Boston Celtics’ draft pick Marcus Thornton as he is also going to play overseas. Once White’s season in Germany comes to an end, Washington will have exclusive bargaining ability with him. They could potentially use him as an asset down the road depending on his performance in Germany.
