The world of film has been rocked by the COVID-19 pandemic, but filmmakers still found a way to make art during a period of tragedy. From Sam Levinson’s Malcolm & Marie to Regina King’s One Night In Miami, there were more than a few films that shaped pop culture over the last twelve months. In an effort to recognize some of the names and faces who shaped the film industry this year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences did what it does best.
Hosting the biggest award show in Hollywood, the Academy enlisted Jesse Collins, Stacey Sher and Steven Soderbergh to help make everything make sense. Through their efforts, Angela Bassett, Brad Pitt and Halle Berry signed on to present awards at Union Station in Los Angeles on a warm April evening. With that said, the attention will always lie with the nominees and the eventual winners. Films like Nomadland, Judas and the Black Messiah and Minari enter the night with high expectations. Chadwick Boseman has a chance to win his first Academy Award and Kevin Durant could win an Oscar as well. There’s a lot to be on the lookout for on the biggest night in Hollywood.
