After being drafted just outside the lottery in the 2014 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics, James Young’s career hasn’t gone as expected. Young played 3 years with the Celtics, but had little impact before he was cut this most recent offseason.
Now, according to Adam Johnson of 2Ways10Days, the Philadelphia 76ers will sign the 22 year old guard to a two-way contract:

Young has been playing for the Wisconsin Herd so far this season, the G-League affiliate for the Milwaukee Bucks. The 6’6″ shooting guard has been performing admirably in the G-League, scoring 22.3 points per game in 20 appearances. Young has also been putting his solid outside stroke on display, shooting over 37 percent from 3-point range and 44.7 percent from the field overall.
Though James Young isn’t expected to come in and make a serious impact, the 76ers hope he can bolster their guard rotation behind rookie phenom Ben Simmons, J.J. Redick, T.J. McConnell, and Jerryd Bayless.
Philadelphia also expects to get back first overall pick Markelle Fultz in the coming weeks so Young likely serves as an insurance policy more than anything.
The Sixers also waived Jacob Pullen in order to free up the requisite roster spot for Young’s arrival.
