After being drafted out of Arizona in 1992, Rooks played a 12-year NBA career in the 1990s and early 2000s. For his career, he averaged 6.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game. He retired from the NBA in 2004. At Arizona, he was named First-team All-Pac-10.
After his retirement, Rooks played overseas, and then went into coaching. Rooks served as an assistant coach for D-League teams Bakersfield Jam, New Mexico Thunderbirds, and Sioux Falls Skyforce. Since 2014, he has served as an assistant for the Philadelphia 76ers, although the Sixers reportedly recently let go of Rooks.
