The Philadelphia 76ers are in a state of disarray and need substantial help across the board but mostly in their paper-thin backcourt. They made a move late Friday night that should help, even though it may not be that significant. Philadelphia has agreed to terms on a four year contract with summer league standout guard Scottie Wilbekin. Following from RealGM’s Shams Charania:
Philadelphia has agreed to a four-year deal with summer guard Scottie Wilbekin, league sources tell RealGM. Wilbekin opts out in Australia.

Wilbekin was a talented prospect at the University of Florida, but has been off the NBA map recently. He most recently played in Greece and also had a short stint in Australia before that. Wilbekin played four years under now Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Billy Donavan. The 6’2 guard went undrafted in the 2014 Draft but is now getting a second shot and this one on a long term contract. Wilbekin has also raised eyebrows with his performance in Vegas for NBA Summer League, shooting a scorching 42.4% from deep. He also played last year for the Memphis Grizzlies but never received a contract offer.
Wilbekin could come in and have an instant impact in the weak Philly backcourt. He may contribute possibly 10 minutes per game but that has a chance to expand if Tony Wroten and Isaiah Canaan don’t play up to par. Either way, the sixers are in for another rough season and may find themselves years from relevancy again.
