Before I get into the main story, can we talk about how Jerry Colangelo is managing to do all this for the Philadelphia 76ers AND still maintaining his position as president of USA Basketball. I mean how does he have the time for all this?! We’ve established he’s not just there to be a face, he’s making moves already. Talk about a workhorse.
Speaking of making moves, we had one drop while the East Coast went to sleep. Mike D’Antoni was hired to be the Sixers associate head coach.
The Philadelphia 76ers have hired seasoned NBA veteran Mike D’Antoni as associate head coach, The Inquirer reported Thursday night, citing two league sources.
D’Antoni has ties to Colangelo from their time in Phoenix, where Colangelo was the Suns’ owner and longtime cornerstone of the franchise. Colangelo also is the chairman of USA Basketball, and D’Antoni has served on Team USA’s staff.
That last paragraph is important. I have a feeling because Colangelo and D’Antoni are tight, maybe Colangelo wanted a man on the floor, to keep tabs on everything. A guy inside the locker room to see if the team chemistry is up to snuff.
Just a theory.
