The annual Supplemental Draft is set to take place on July 14th. Six players are eligible for the Supplemental Draft this year as these players are always subject to off the field concerns.
The headliner for this year is Ole Miss corner Tee Shepard. Shepard, who is partially deaf, is the most likely player to be selected this year. The other five players who are eligible for selection include Virginia Tech long snapper Eddie D’Antuono, Purdue DL Ra’Zahn Howard, Sam Houston State RB Jalen Overstreet, WR Rashaun Simonise of Calgary, Canada, and Concordia DE Cameron Walton.
On the list above it appears the Purdue defensive lineman Howard could also be selected. He played 12 games last season recording 23 tackles and one sack.
The way the Supplemental Draft works is quite simple. It is like any draft except you can decide to select a player or forfeit your selection. This goes through the normal 7 rounds of course. If you decide to use one of your 7 selections it means that pick will be forfeited during the 2017 NFL Draft.
Last season Isiah Battle was taken in the 5th round by the Rams. In 2012 Cleveland used a 2nd rounder on Baylor wide out Josh Gordon. These players come with risks but sometimes they can pan out such as Bernie Kosar.
