In a statement today the San Francisco 49ers have announced that they are parting ways with Linebacker NaVorro Bowman.
Earlier in the week 49ers brass gave Bowman and his agent permission to seek a trade, however that was unsuccessful.
This week, NaVorro Bowman’s agent Drew Rosenhaus sent a letter to 31 teams saying he had permission to seek a trade. They tried. Now cut.

San Francisco GM John Lynch announced the linebacker’s release with this statement, “NaVorro gave his heart and soul to this team for the last eight years, and for that we are all extremely grateful. During that time, NaVorro was a key component of one of the best teams in the League and his passion for the game allowed him to quickly become a favorite of our Faithful fans. Thursday evening, Kyle and I met with NaVorro, and from our conversation it became evident that going in different directions was best for both him and our team. Although NaVorro may be moving on, he will always be looked at as one of the great players to wear the red and gold. We wish him and his family great success.”
Bowman entered the league as third round pick for the 49ers in 2010. Since entering the league Bowman has made the Pro Bowl 3 times and named an All Pro 4 times.

Bowman’s departure is likely an attempt by the team to clear the way for rookie linebacker Reuben Foster. Several teams could use the dynamic linebacker to replace injured players.
Don’t be surprised if Bowman lands in Houston or Oakland. The Texans have a dangerous need in the middle of their defense after losing linebacker Brian Cushing due to PED suspension and defensive end JJ Watt and pass rusher Whitney Mercilus to injuries.
The Oakland Raiders are also in the market for a linebacker after Marquel Lee went down with an injury vs. the Ravens. Oakland has the added attraction that if Bowman signs there he wouldn’t have to move.

Through 5 weeks Bowman has recorded 22 solo tackles, one tackle for loss, and no sacks.
