Has Apple finally touched a market that it cannot conquer straight out the gate? Back in June, Apple launched its brand new streaming service that would give iOS users a new streaming experience that did not require them to venture outside the convenience of the music application. Rivaling the likes of Spotify and Tidal, the hopes for Apple Music were set high simply because of the Apple plug that comes with the name itself along with the innovation of the brand. Fast-forward to present day and it’s being reported that at least 48% of Apple Music users are no longer using the service.
Among people who had tried Apple Music, 48 percent reported they are not currently using the service. More than one quarter (28 percent) of Spotify Premium customers also use Apple Music, but the draw from popular ad-supported services is more modest: Just 11 percent of Spotify Free users, and 6 percent of Pandora users, now use Apple’s offering.
This makes for an interesting bit of news as current users of the service are still apart of Apple’s 3 month free trial that was offered with the launch on June 30th. Could it be that Spotify is simply a dominant force that can’t be touched in the streaming world? While many reveled in the lack of Tidal’s initial success, consumers have shown that Apple Music isn’t immune either.
