The Seattle Seahawks will hold the 26th overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. After a disappointing 10-6 season where will the Seahawks turn in order to return to the Super Bowl for the 3rd time in 4 seasons?
One area of need that catches my eye rather quickly is the running back position. Marshawn Lynch will not be back and Thomas Rawls finished the year on injured reserve. Could this be the first spot someone pulls the trigger on Alabama’s Derrick Henry. If there is anyone that could replicate Marshawn Lynch’s physical running style it could be Henry.
Another position the Seahawks could look at is wide receiver. Doug Baldwin, Tyler Lockett, and Jermaine Kearse are good complimentary guys, but the team could really take off if they were to land a true number one target. If Ole Miss wide receiver Laquon Treadwell is available I would have a hard time passing on him. Treadwell could be the next Alshon Jeffery and is really only being knocked down for his pure straight line speed.
On defense the Bruce Irvin loss still kind of stings from a pass rushing standpoint. The problem is taking a pass rusher this early comes with concern as taking a player such as Noah Spence would come with some risk. Then again if there’s a team that could afford to roll the dice early it is Seattle. Robert Nkemdiche and Jaylon Smith could also be options if they decide to trade down. One player deeper in the draft that appears to be a good fit is Victor Ochi who caught my eye at the East-West Game.
The biggest reason for Seattle’s down season a year ago was horrendous offensive line play. Losing Russell Okung and J.R. Sweezy this past offseason only creates more holes to an already hideous offensive line. As talented as this team is they are foolhardy if they think they can get away with not drafting at least one player if not 2 or 3 to sure up the line. Some good fits to me would include Jason Spriggs and Ryan Kelly.
