The Miami Dolphins made a volatile trade when they decided to move down 5 draft slots in order to acquire Byron Maxwell and Kiko Alonso. Now at pick 13 where will the Dolphins look for help in the 2016 NFL Draft.
One rumored pick for the Dolphins has been runningback Ezekiel Elliot from Ohio State. The problem with this is they have a horrific offense line combined with anemic quarterback play would be a disastrous decision to use a first round pick on a tailback. Instead it would be wise to use a 4th or 5th round pick on a players like Alex Collins, Paul Perkins, and Kelvin Taylor. Taylor could be the guy when factoring in that he is from Florida. Being the son of Fred Taylor can’t hurt either.
The problem when projecting a first round pick to Miami is they really shot themselves in the foot as there is a significant drop in talent from pick 8-13. One of the biggest areas of need is along the offensive line. The bookend tackles of Brandon Albert and Ju’Waun James have not lived up to expectations and have often found themselves injured. Miami could get fortunate and have Notre Dame’s Ronnie Stanley fall to them at 13 but that appears to be a long shot. Reaching for a first round tackle isn’t a great idea either but there is not question Brandon Albert could benefit from being kicked inside to guard.
Finally there is still a massive need in the secondary. The Dolphins somehow got worse and more expensive when they acquired Byron Maxwell and released Brent Grimes. Could Vernon Hargreaves be the answer on the other side? The Florida corner will likely be the pick if he is still on the board at 13 but again a major long shot. If the Dolphins fail to capitalize in the draft moving down 5 spots could be a major reason why.
