U.S. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has secured a third term in Congress. The young congresswoman ousted her challenger, Tina Forte, in a lopsided victory.
“Thank you to every member of our community and every grassroots supporter for entrusting me with the great responsibility of representing NY-14 in Congress,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted.
“We do this with small dollars, every time. I remain grateful to all of you who make a new kind of governance possible.”
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez first arrived on the national political scene in November 2018 by becoming the youngest person elected to Congress at the time. Two years later, she maintained her seat in a landslide and paved the way for a third term in 2022. This November, Ocasio-Cortez emerged victorious in a redrawn district that cut approximately 300,000 voters in some areas and gained approximately 330,000 in other areas.
In this newly reshaped district, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has competed against Tina Forte, a conservative advocate. The Independent reports that she has peddled QAnon slogans, propped up conspiracy theories and recorded videos of herself outside of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
