Spider-Man: No Way Home and The Matrix Resurrections aren’t the only dramas bring viewers to the theaters during the holiday season. Cinemark and ESPN have partnered to air all three games of the 2021-2022 College Football Playoff to movie theaters across the country. Beginning December 31, fans can watch Cincinnati take on Alabama and Michigan battle Georgia from the comfort of a movie theater recliner while enjoying popcorn.
“We are thrilled to offer an incredible opportunity for college football fans to gather and cheer on their teams in our immersive auditoriums with larger-than-life screens and surround sound,” Justin McDaniel of Cinemark said.
Despite the excitement surrounding this year’s playoff, Cinemark and ESPN will have to overcome a number of obstacles. First, the two entities will have to convince fans its worth leaving their homes and traveling to the theaters. Second, ESPN and Cinemark will have to convince viewers its still safe to go to theaters as the number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise across the country. Still, Cinemark and ESPN are confident that this partnership will be a success.
“This collaboration with ESPN brings together the best in college football and exhibition for a one-of-a-kind viewing experience that will make people feel like they are part of the on-field action,” McDaniel added.
