Earlier today 2019 five-star prospect Jalen Lecque out of Brewster Academy (Wolfeboro, N.H.) decided to move forward in his basketball career as he committed to NC State. The 6’4 combo guard out of Brewster Academy was listed number four on 247Sports list of top guards in the class of 2019.

He nearly reclassified to the class of 2018 this summer but instead transferred to Brewster from Christ School (Arden, N.C.) in late July. Lecque posted per game averages of 20.1 points, 9.3 assists and 9.1 rebounds last season.

With his decision, Lecque passed up offers from Kentucky, Tennessee, and Auburn. He also becomes the first five-star recruit to join coach Kevin Keatts and the Wolfpack. What does this mean for NC State, a team expected to be on the rise despite losing one of their best players over the summer?
Lecque brings a lot of versatility to the table as he is able to play both on-ball and off-ball. His athleticism and bounce make him a nightmare for many defenders. His ball handling ability allows him to create under pressure and also find some open lanes through a tight defense. Lecque’s size allows him to be a great rebounder for a guard, which will be a big help for NC State. He’s expected to make an immediate impact as soon as he steps on the court for the Wolfpack.
Lecque’s athleticism at the guard position has earned him comparisons to a “poor man’s Russell Westbrook” or another former NC State guard in Dennis Smit Jr. The Wolfpack look to make an even deeper push in the NCAA tournament with the addition of their first five-star recruit under coach Keatts.
