
Along with the usual honor of winning an illustrious NBA award, the spectacle has started to build up the hype even further in recent years. The NBA implemented an end of season awards show last season when it debuted as a smashing success and the league plans to run a similar routine this season.
According to a recent press release, the NBA plans to air the awards show live from Santa Monica, California. The glamorous night will take place on June 25th with the proceedings commencing at 9PM ET.
Turner and the NBA announced today that the 2018 NBA Awards presented by Kia on TNT will air live from historic Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif., on Monday, June 25, at 9 p.m. ET. The star-studded event taking place at one of the city’s signature venues will honor all of the league’s top performers from the 2017-18 NBA season, including the exclusive unveiling of the Kia NBA MVP, Kia NBA Defensive Player of the Year, Kia NBA Rookie of the Year and Lifetime Achievement Award, among others.
Hip-hop recording artist Drake did a good job serving as the host last season and the NBA will hope to carry that momentum into this year’s edition of the NBA awards. The press release confirmed celebrities and entertainers will remain involved this year along with the award-winning TNT crew:
The second annual NBA Awards on TNT will once again feature current and former NBA players, coaches, musical performances and celebrity presenters throughout the evening. Additionally, the Sports Emmy Award-winning Inside the NBA studio team of Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith and Shaquille O’Neal will be integrated throughout the show. Additional details will be announced at a later date.
The end of season awards show allows fans, players, and media to honor what the players have accomplished throughout the season. Houston Rockets guard James Harden is currently the leading candidate for the most prized award of the night: the MVP. LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Giannis Antetokounmpo will all also likely be in the discussion.
