The San Francisco 49ers will hold the 15th pick in the NFL Draft. The biggest addition during the free agency was speedy wide out Torrey Smith who will hopefully upgrade the passing game. On the other hand Justin Smith, Michael Crabtree, Patrick Willis, Frank Gore and Chris Borland will not be returning. After an offseason that included the firing of head coach Jim Harbaugh will the 9ers look to upgrade the offense to combat the loss of the brilliant offensive mind?
New head coach Jim Tomsula, formerly the defensive line coach, will look to bring a different chemistry to the locker room. With that in mind the 49ers will likely look to add some toughness. In my Mock Draft I selected Louisville’s DeVante Parker. Anquan Boldin is on his last leg while Torrey Smith is a one trick pony deep threat. In the end the 9ers may look to add talent around quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Other wide reciever targets could include Nelson Agholor, Dorial Green-Beckham, Jaelen Strong, and Breshad Perriman.
The front seven also needs to be upgraded after losing some key players. Oregon’s Arik Armstead will be a perfect 3 technique in the defensive line. Darnell Dockett and Glenn Dorsey are the other core defensive line pieces.
The team could also target some cornerback help. Perish Cox and Chris Culliver have gone elsewhere. The number one cornerback Trae Waynes out of Michigan State will likely be off the board by 15, but is likely the number one target. Wake Forest’s Kevin Johnson may be the best fit as he is a great press corner. That hard nose press corner is a need in a physical NFC West. Eric Rowe, Jalen Collins, Steven Nelson, and Josh Shaw are some other press corner San Francisco could consider.
