The San Diego Chargers have endured a busy offseason with plans to build a joint stadium with the Oakland Raiders. There are also the ridiculous rumor that Phillip Rivers may be spending his last season with the bolts in 2015. There is also a more ridiculous rumor that Phillip Rivers may be dealt in a package to acquire Oregon’s Marcus Mariota. Having said all of that expect San Diego to target offensive players during the draft to surround their franchise signal caller.
The runningback position is a deficiency even prior to the loss of Ryan Mathews. It’s no secret the Chargers will be in the runningback market. San Diego may even have their choice between Melvin Gordon and Todd Gurley with the 17th pick. Gurley is the high up side pick while Gordon is viewed as the safe pick. Gurley suffered a torn ACL on November 15th in a win over Auburn. If the injury had never occurred Gurley would have been a top 10 lock.
The wide receiver position also needs to be upgraded. Keenan Allen is a nice target but there is a lack of surrounding talent. With all the offseason drama going on with Phillip Rivers it may be in the Chargers best interest to add a young talented wide out. Louisville’s DeVante Parker could be a great fit for the offense should he fall to the bolts.
