The Miami Dolphins will head into the 2015 season improved adding valuable pieces such as Ndamukong Suh, Kenny Stills, Greg Jennings, and Jordan Cameron. With the 14 overall pick will the Dolphins look to upgrade an already scary defense or surround quarterback Ryan Tannehill with more talent?
The secondary certainly needs to be upgraded especially after the retirement of Cortland Finnegan. The fact that the Dolphins have yet meet with any high end cornerback prospects may suggests the team will pursue later round options. Senquez Golson is a player I am highly found of and could become the perfect slot corner. With the high volume of packages the New England Patriots run, Golson could become a valuable piece to cover slot wide outs. If Golson were 6’1″ he would be considered in the first round. At only 5’9″ Golson becomes a steal in the middle rounds.
The offensive line is another pressing need for the team. The unit has been a disaster since the Jonathan Martin/Richie Incognito fiasco. After selecting Ju’Waun James a season ago, the need for a versatile lineman still exists. La’el Collins is a player who could fit the Dolphin mold with the ability to play guard and tackle. If the Dolphins decide to wait until round two guards A.J. Cann and Tre Jackson are two players who could become available. Cann is a player who is not getting enough credit after a phenomenal senior season. Cann is my number one rated guard and should be considered in the back end of round one.
Watch Senior Bowl Exec Phil Savage breakdown a game tape of A.J. Cann.
The runningback position is another need that will be addressed in the middle rounds. Lamar Miller is a solid back, but the Dolphins could use another complimentary piece. Michigan State’s Jeremy Langford could be a player who could interest Miami. Langford is a powerful back who can be a great compliment to the speedy Lamar Miller. Langford can likely be had in the middle of round three. Terrence McGee, Karlos Williams, and David Cobb are some other bruising half backs who can be had in rounds 6-7.
Below is the list of players Miami could have interest in as well as every Dolphin draft pick.
