The Superbowl champion New England Patriots will hold the 32nd overall selection in the 2015 NFL Draft. The Pats will have 9 picks to use at their disposal after receiving two compensatory pick. An extra third and seventh round pick will be added after losing Aqib Talib and Dane Fletcher. Make no mistake about it those comp picks are valuable. Just ask New England, Tom Brady is a former compensatory 6th round pick.
The first round pick will be used as a best available player pick. New England is a smart organization with very few holes on the roster. The Pats have also been known to trade down to acquire more draft assets. One option the team could look at is the wide receiver position. Breshad Perriman of Central Florida is one player who could be on their radar. Perriman (6-foot-1 3/4, 212 pounds) was clocked between 4.19 and 4.27 seconds in the 40 during his pro day. (These times are often not accurate due to hand times). Perriman is a fast riser who could be a under the radar first round pick from a relatively smaller school. He could provide the perfect compliment to Julian Edelman. Below is the video of his impressive run.
Another position the team could look for is cornerback. After losing Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner, the team desperately needs a corner. Kevin Jones, Byron Jones, Jalen Collins, and Marcus Peters are some of the players who could be available. Kyle Arrington and Logan Ryan appear to be the starters as of now. A player who I really like is Senquez Golson out of Ole Miss. Golson is a talented kid who was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 11th round of the 2011 draft. Golson played center field showing his excellent ability to track the ball. What better way than to keep him in New England with a chance to for the Patriots. After turning down 1.4 million to play college football, it is apparent that Golson has a chance to be a star in the league. Having said all of that he can be had for a modest 3rd-4th round pick.
The Pats will also probably look to add a runningback late in the draft. Shane Vereen has signed with the Giants and Stevan Ridely appears to be looking for a home elsewhere. Brandon Bolden, LeGarrette Blount, James White, Tyler Gaffney, Jonas Gray, and Travaris Cadet are the current half backs. This is a deep group but it’s missing that stud every-down option. As of now Blount looks to be the goal line guy with Cadet taking over the Vereen role. Below is the list of every Patriot selection for the upcoming draft.
