2 Guns, the action-packed comedy starring Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg debuted at number one with an estimated $27.4 million it’s opening weekend.
Known for their more serious roles, Washington and Wahlberg team up in the adaptation of a graphic novel series by Steven Grant as it follows two competing operatives, Washington as DEA agent Robert Trench and Wahlberg as Naval Intelligence operative Michael Stigman as they are unbeknown to each other working undercover with seemingly separate agendas but attempting to bust the same drug ring.
Washington explained in a promotional interview, “The timing was perfect when the script came to me … I was shooting or just about to shoot Flight so I was looking for something different and thinking ahead. My kids and other people have been saying it was time to do something light and more fun.”
The familiar ‘buddy cop’ plot plays over well as viewers get to see the great chemistry between Washington and Wahlberg in this Baltasar Kormaku directed movie. Kormaku is also known for 2012’s Contraband also featuring Mark Wahlberg.
The film also features Big Love‘s Bill Paxton and Mission Impossible- Ghost Protocol‘s Paula Patton.
2 Guns is 109 minutes and rated R for violence, language and brief nudity.
