Troy Ave decides to resurrect the war of independent words with Joey Bada$$. Back June of 2015, Joey declared himself the number one independent rapper out at the moment.
He tweeted: “Reminder: Joey Bada$$ sold 57,000+ albums in his first week, INDEPENDENTLY… At 20 years old… $10/album… 85% of shares, do the math….,” then added “That makes me the #1 Independent Hip Hop artist/brand in the world….”
Which led to the Major Without A Deal rapper to clap back with: “NO single, NO party hosting’s NO real endorsements Reminder: NObody cares + u WORK for Sony Red / Cinematic Records #FakeIndependent.”
And of course Bada$$ had to respond: “Troy hit back, accusing the young rapper of “selling out” via club gigs and radio-friendly (??) singles, as well as calling out that he is signed to the independent Cinematic Music Group (which has a partnership with Sony RED):”
So there’s the backstory behind this Troy Ave diss track, which is a little too late, but better late than nothing, right?
