20th Century Fox brings forth the story of three brilliant African-American women who played a significant role in NASA’s earlier days of exploration. More specifically helped NASA and America lead the space race.
Our three leading ladies of ‘Hidden Figures’ stars Taraji P. Henson (Empire) as Katherine Johnson, singer Janelle Monae as Mary Jackson and Olivia Spencer (Fruitvale Station) as Dorothy Vaughn.
Looking to land in theaters this January 17, 2017, ‘Hidden Figures’ details the story of Katherine Johnson (Henson), a mathematician who was heavily involved in the spaceflight of John Glenn, who became the first American to orbit the Earth in 1962. Johnson who was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama last year, had involvement in the early stages of the Apollo and Shuttle program.
While these lovely young women were involved with such a high profiled duty, as African-American women in the 1960’s they faced race and gender inequality.
‘Hidden Figures’ is directed by Theodore Melfi and also stars Kevin Costner, Kirsten Dunst, Jim Parsons,Mahershala Ali, Aldis Hodge, and Glen Powell. Not to mention Pharrell Williams is a producer and co-composer with Hans Zimmer for the film.
