Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first trailer for “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald,” the second of five planned “Harry Potter” spin-off films. The new teaser goes right back to the school of witchcraft and wizardry that started it all as the Potter prequel saga continues.
Eddie Redmayne, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, with Jude Law and Johnny Depp star in the new film in which Grindelwald (Depp) has escaped custody and has set about gathering followers. In an effort to thwart his plans, Albus Dumbledore (Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander (Redmayne) who agrees to help but is unaware of the dangers that lie ahead.
Elsewhere there are some new (pretty fantastic-looking) beasts including an owl-like bird and a deer-like creature with jagged antlers, Dan Fogler’s muggle baker Jacob Kowalski is reacquainted with the magical world after having had his memory erased, Ezra Miller’s Credence Barebone looks like he can now control his Obscurial abilities (possibly thanks to his new haircut), Zoë Kravitz makes an appearance as Newt’s old flame Leta Lestrange, and Johnny Depp’s big bad Grindelwald has had a much-needed menacing makeover.
Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world. The film opens on November 16th, 2018.
