The Dallas Mavericks 2017-2018 season is about developing the young talent and preparing for the upcoming draft and pending free agency. One of Dallas’ young players, Seth Curry is set to have season-ending surgery on his left tibia according to reports from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
This latest setback isn’t the first time Curry has had to deal with complications stemming from his injured left leg. This preseason, the Mavericks announced the point guard would be out indefinitely after suffering a stress reaction in his left tibia.
The injury has kept Curry from participating in a single game for Dallas this season.
Dennis Smith Jr, the rookie point guard, taken ninth by the Mavericks in last year’s draft, has started all 46 games this year in Curry’s place. Smith is averaging 14 points, three rebounds and 4.8 assists per game this season.
Smith, joined by Yogi Ferrell and JJ Barea, have taken on the point guard responsibilities for Dallas as this season reaches the trade deadline.
According to Wojnarowski, the Mavericks hope is that Curry can return to basketball activities before the start of free agency in July.
The 27-year-old guard is a career 43 percent three-point shooter, and if healthy could be very attractive to possible suitors in need of outside shooting.
Last season with Dallas, Curry averaged 12.8 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.
