Jay-Z made history when he made the announcement that Samsung would be giving away a million copies of his twelfth studio album Magna Carta Holy Grail when it released as part of their business partnership to their customers. The company paid $5 for each copy. Many believed that this ingenious plot would guarantee that Hov would instantly go at least 1x-platinum with the LP. Well, according to a statement made by Nielsen SoundScan reps to MTV, those one million copies purchased by Samsung will not be included in charts.
The reps said that the company does not count any type of bulk sales in their charting. It’s been reported that Universal Media Group is still pleading their case to have the Samsung copies counted.
Magna Carta releases officially on July 4th.
