The past week has brought forth various amounts of emotions if you call yourself a Rihanna fan. Unannounced and unexpected, last week the singer went ahead and released a new single, ‘Work,’ with Drake, and took things further and released her eighth studio album, ANTI. Deemed by some as her best project yet, Rihanna made it her mission to put the focus on the music and embarked on an album campaign that found itself being vastly different than the 7 campaigns that have came before ANTI‘s. After already being certified platinum by the RIAA, there’s even more to celebrate thanks to her new hit single, ‘Work.’ Due to the timely and effective release, Rihanna’s ‘Work’ stormed Billboard’s Hot 100 at No. 9 and went ahead to allow Rihanna to tie Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, and Elton John’s Hot 100 Top 10 totals, via Billboard.
As previously reported, Rihanna’s “Work,” the lead single from her new album Anti, rockets onto the Billboard Hot 100 (dated Feb. 13) at No. 9, instantly becoming the superstar’s 27th top 10. With the song’s arrival, she ties Mariah Carey, Janet Jacksonand Elton John for the fifth-most top 10s in the Hot 100’s history.
The only artists with more top 10s than that quartet since the Hot 100 originated with the chart dated Aug. 4, 1958? Madonna (38), the Beatles (34), Michael Jackson (29) and Stevie Wonder (28). (Notably, Elvis Presley boasts 25 Hot 100 top 10s, but his career predated the chart by two years; had the chart existed earlier, his top 10 count would be higher.)
In what started off as becoming an album that may never see the light of day, it has now brought forth new career achievements for the singer. For sure, you can never count Rihanna out. With much more in store, this just may be one of many new heights that the era will birth for the Pop star.
